iMyFone ChatsBack and iMyTrans are different third-party products. ChatsBack is marketed for recovering WhatsApp data; iMyTrans is marketed for moving and managing it. If your old chats are still present, start with an official transfer. Deleted records require a recovery decision, and neither product guarantees that missing messages can be found.
Before you begin
- Check whether the history is intact on the old phone, deleted, or available only in a backup.
- Record the backup date and its source: Google Account, iCloud, an iTunes computer backup or a vendor-created file.
- Protect current destination records before any restoration. ChatMovo has not tested either product.
Recovery and transfer solve different problems
| Question | ChatsBack | iMyTrans |
|---|---|---|
| Main advertised job | Find and recover WhatsApp data. | Transfer, back up, restore and export WhatsApp data. |
| Documented inputs | Device storage, Google Drive, iTunes backups and previous ChatsBack scan records. | Connected phones and supported phone, iTunes or Google Drive backups. |
| Typical use | Investigate missing records in an available source. | Move a present history or manage a supported backup. |
| Result to distinguish | Recovery to a device versus export to a computer. | Transfer/restore into WhatsApp versus readable export. |
| Replacement concern | The guide warns device recovery can erase destination WhatsApp data. | The ordinary Transfer and Restore flows warn of replacement/deletion; a separate merge option is a vendor claim. |
Scenario 1: the chats are still on the old phone
This is a migration task. You do not need to recover already-available messages just because the destination has an empty chat list. Establish the transfer direction and device/app state first.
If an official route does not fit, iMyTrans is the product whose documented purpose more closely matches transfer. That identifies its category, not proof that it will work for you. Ask about exact versions and overwrite behavior before connecting phones.
Scenario 2: the messages were deleted
The ChatsBack guide describes USB access, an older WhatsApp installation for some Android recovery flows and target-data erasure. These are material vendor workflow conditions. We do not recommend weakening account protection or treating a recovery advertisement as evidence that deleted data still exists.
- Check whether an existing backup predates the deletion and includes the messages you need. Avoid replacing that useful backup with a new one containing only the current incomplete history.
- If a suitable same-platform WhatsApp backup exists, review its official restoration path and the effect on messages received since that backup.
- If considering ChatsBack, establish which documented source is actually available and what a preview shows. A scan finding some records does not guarantee recovery of a particular missing chat or attachment.
- Before Recover to Device, protect the current destination history and confirm what the software will install or change. An external archive may meet a recordkeeping need without writing onto the phone.
Scenario 3: only a backup remains
A product cannot create messages that were never captured in the available source. Ask whether your goal is reading the archive or restoring usable chats on a phone; those are different outputs.
| Remaining source | First question |
|---|---|
| WhatsApp Google Account backup | Can you restore it on Android using the matching account and number? Cross-platform use is a different task. |
| WhatsApp iCloud backup | Can you use WhatsApp's iPhone restore flow? Do not infer Android restore support from an iCloud login. |
| iTunes or vendor computer backup | Does the chosen product explicitly accept that file, and does it contain the wanted history? |
| Exported TXT, HTML, PDF or CSV | Is a readable archive enough? An export is not an official WhatsApp restore backup. |
Before a trial or purchase
Both names appear in iMyFone's catalog, but their guides and licenses should be checked separately. Do not assume a ChatsBack purchase includes iMyTrans, or that a free scan pays for device recovery. Confirm which actions the offered edition permits and its current terms.
iMyTrans documents both an ordinary transfer that overwrites current chats and a separate Transfer and Merge option. Its existence does not make official migration merge-capable, and we have not verified the vendor option's outcome.
Frequently asked questions
Can iMyFone ChatsBack recover every deleted chat?
No reliable guarantee follows from the product description. Recovery depends on the available device or backup data. We have not tested its ability to recover any particular deleted message.
Is iMyTrans a renamed ChatsBack?
No. The vendor presents separate recovery and transfer products with separate guides. Choose by your actual data state rather than the similarity of the brand names.
Can I restore an old backup and keep all new chats?
Do not assume that. Official restoration does not merge histories, and vendor restore flows warn about destination deletion. Preserve needed new records before choosing which history to restore.
