Move to iOS WhatsApp Transfer Not Working: What to Check

Diagnose pairing, stalled copying and missing WhatsApp imports with a staged checklist that protects the original phone.

THE SHORT ANSWER

First identify where the transfer failed: connecting the phones, copying data, or importing inside WhatsApp. Keep the Android source intact. Check connectivity and available space before repeating a transfer or erasing the destination.

Before you begin

  • This checklist is for Android-to-iPhone transfers through Move to iOS.
  • Keep both phones powered and nearby, and retain access to your original WhatsApp number.
  • Note the exact screen and error message. Do not share verification codes or private chat screenshots with anyone offering help.

1. Stabilize the connection

Apple recommends disabling Android settings that switch networks, turning off cellular data and restarting both phones before another attempt. Keep Move to iOS in the foreground; another app or an incoming call can interrupt copying.

A temporary Wi-Fi connection may have no internet access. Follow the pairing prompt instead of switching away solely because of that warning. If using a supported wired connection, check the cable and the USB access prompt.

2. Separate slow copying from failure

Do not use an arbitrary time limit as proof that a transfer has failed. The amount of content affects duration. Check the destination screen and wait for its completion indication, even if Android finishes first.

If the iPhone runs out of storage, Apple’s recovery path is to erase the destination and repeat with content that fits. Before doing that, save anything new on the iPhone. Never delete the only copy of important Android media simply to reduce the transfer size.

3. Check the WhatsApp import stage

  1. Confirm WhatsApp was selected in Move to iOS, rather than its files being copied manually.
  2. Use the latest WhatsApp on iPhone and the original number. Complete the import prompt, not just phone activation.
  3. Open existing conversations and media to check the result. An empty chat list or group names alone does not confirm success.

When to stop retrying

If the same stage fails after you correct an identifiable problem, keep both phones as they are and consult the linked Apple or WhatsApp support guidance. Record app versions, available storage, connection type and the error text so the next attempt has a reason.

There is no documented universal button that repairs every failed import. Paid software is a separate decision, not proof that a failed official transfer can be recovered.
